About
A short list, published in full
OHM earth makes plant-powered products for the home. One so far, made properly rather than broadly: OHM Wash laundry detergent sheets.
What we are trying to do
Household cleaning products are usually sold on what they leave out. The label tells you what is absent, in large type, and what is present in small type or not at all. We would rather do it the other way around.
OHM Wash is made from twelve ingredients. Each one is named on this site with its CAS registry number — the unique identifier chemists and regulators use — and a plain description of what it does in the wash. If you want to look one up in a public safety database, you can. Nothing is grouped under “surfactant blend” and left there.
That is the whole idea. Fewer things in the box, and all of them written down.
How the products are made
OHM Wash is manufactured in Canada as a concentrated sheet rather than a liquid. There is no water to ship and no plastic jug to throw away, and the carton flattens for recycling. Half a sheet washes a regular load, a full sheet a large one. Thirty sheets cover up to sixty washes.
Certification, and what it is worth
OHM Wash carries the U.S. EPA Safer Choice label, which means every ingredient in the formula has been reviewed by the EPA against its Safer Chemical Ingredients criteria. It also carries the USDA Certified Biobased Product label, which reports how much of the product is made from renewable biological material — OHM Wash is certified at 55%.
These programs are useful because they are external, published, and specific about what they do and do not cover. Publishing the ingredient list on this site is a condition of the Safer Choice certification, and it is the part of the arrangement we would keep even if it were not required.
Where to find us
OHM earth sells through Amazon in the United States and Canada. There is no direct checkout on this site and there is no plan to add one — a single fulfilment channel is easier to keep straight than three. Packaging is bilingual English and French for the Canadian market.
If you have a question about a product, an ingredient, or a carton that does not look right, the address is ohmfloss@gmail.com and it is read by a person.
