Materials, packaging, certification
Environmental language is cheap and mostly interchangeable. What follows is what our products are made of, how they are packed, and which outside bodies have reviewed them — with the criteria each one actually applies.
Two programs apply to OHM Wash. Each is run by an outside body with published criteria, and each covers a specific and limited thing.
Run by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Every ingredient in OHM Wash has been reviewed against the EPA’s Safer Chemical Ingredients criteria, and the program requires this website to publish the complete ingredient list with CAS numbers — which is why the ingredients page exists.
Run by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The label reports the percentage of a product made from renewable biological material, measured by a standard test method rather than self-declared. OHM Wash is certified at 55%.
Certification marks shown on packaging are the property of the bodies that issue them and are used under the terms of those programs.
There is a standard vocabulary in this category — a set of phrases that appear on almost every eco-labelled cleaning product. We leave most of them off, because a claim is only worth making if it is specific enough to be checked.
So: no sweeping statements about what is not in the box, and no unqualified environmental adjectives. Where we do make a claim, it is one a certification body has reviewed or one supported by documentation we hold on file.
